Disciple Bible Study III: Remember Who You Are
Led by Rev. Taylor Boone
The third in the series of Disciple Bible studies will be known as Remember Who You Are. The driving idea in this study is the connection between memory and identity as the people of God. The word You in the title is meant to be heard both in its singular form (the individual) and its plural form (the community). We are a community of memory. We will read the major and minor Old Testament prophets, with the exception of Daniel, and will read the thirteen Letters traditionally attributed to Paul. To establish the historical context in which the prophets spoke for God, daily reading assignments draw also on the books of Deuteronomy through Chronicles.
Several themes weave their way through the study – the call to remember; the call to repentance; the need for renewed vision; and the place of community. The prophets and Paul are continually calling hearers and readers back to their God and to a sense of who they are as a people “set apart”.
The course will last 32 weeks, meeting Sundays from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Class will begin on Sunday, September 5th. Yes there is homework, approximately one hour a day for five days a week. Cost is $25, although scholarships are available.
Please register as soon as possible by contacting Rev. Boone so books can be ordered for everyone. If you have questions, please contact Rev. Taylor Boone at Tboone@travispark.org or call and leave a message at 226-8341.
Concepts: Sorting Through Christianity
Join Rev. Dan Adams this fall for seven Sunday evenings for a free discussion of seven topics. The class will center on the participants’ own personal understandings of: God, the Bible, us, Jesus, the way of salvation, faith, and the afterlife. There will be no book to read, though Dan will suggest readings for those who wish to prepare for the discussion sessions. Material for these sessions will come from participants own lives and thoughts.
The sessions will begin Sept. 12, 6:30-7:45 pm.
“It is my hope as facilitator that no one will be deterred in the least by where you see yourself on the theological spectrum from conservative to liberal. My goal will be to make the class challenging, but respectful of all points of view.” -Dan Adams
Please let Dan know if you are considering joining the class: kasongodan@gmail.com.
