Unconditional Love and Justice in Action

Children's Ministries

Children's Ministries at Travis Park Church

Jesus said, "Let the children come to me and do not hinder them,
for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
Matthew 19:14 NRSV

We welcome all children with love, encouraging them to ask questions and develop healthy curiosity about the world and their place in it. We want children to know that this is a safe place for them to discover who they are in this vast universe and what their purpose is in life.
Understanding that kids learn best by doing, lots of fun hands-on teaching techniques are used in Sunday School. In planning for children's ministries, the following areas are emphasized:
  • fully participating in the life of the church
  • growing in their ability to live responsibly with others
  • showing respect for all of life
  • developing skills in reading, studying, understanding, and using the Bible
  • experiencing how God speaks to us through music
  • growing in their understanding of prayer and their ability to pray
  • discovering the joy of serving God and others.

Preschool
Preschool Sunday school is taught during the Sunday school hour (9:45-10:45) in the nursery.  Currently, the class is using the Cokesbury curriculum Live B.I.G. (Believe In God)  in which the children learn about the love of God through Jesus so they can live their belief in God. There is also music time for the preschool during Sunday school time.
Preschoolers in the nursery during the 11 am worship will have a lesson based on the scriptures for the week.  They will have a chance to use some "school skills" doing puzzles, mazes, dot to dots and coloring.

Elementary School
The grade school (K - 5) Sunday school is also from 9:45 -10:45 and is taught in a rotation format which includes stories, games, and art.   Following Sunday school children are invited to join in the Children's Church Time during the 11 a.m. worship.  This includes grades K through 5.
Sunday school classes for grades K-12 are located on the third floor.

Vacation Bible School - ReNew: The Green VBS
June 21-25, 2010, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Vacation Bible School was great!

VBS kids and volunteers have had a marvelous week of Bible stories, music, drama, games, snacks, planting, growing, and learning from special guest speakers. We’ll hear and see more about all of the fun in both worship services Sunday.  Click here to see more pictures. Thanks to Carol Kohrs and dozens of volunteers who made it all happen.

Grounded in Jesus' Parable of the Sower, ReNew: The Green VBS brings together the Bible and environmental stewardship.   Kids grow in faith as they play, learn, sing, and work toward renewing their congregations and communities. By serving in the community and inviting the  ommunity into church, kids demonstrate that being green can be easy, faithful, and fun. Although current threats to our environment can seem scary, ReNew is about hope, opportunity, and service. Kids and congregations lead the way as stewards of the earth.

What happens when heads, hearts, and hands are in harmony?
Kids grow in faith, have fun, and change the world.
