We conclude about 7:30 with a wonderful meal.

Adult SNL Classes:
Led by Rev. Taylor Boone
The third in the series of Disciple Bible studies will be known as Remember Who You Are. The driving idea in this study is the connection between memory and identity as the people of God. The word You in the title is meant to be heard both in its singular form (the individual) and its plural form (the community). We are a community of memory. We will read the major and minor Old Testament prophets, with the exception of Daniel, and will read the thirteen Letters traditionally attributed to Paul. To establish the historical context in which the prophets spoke for God, daily reading assignments draw also on the books of Deuteronomy through Chronicles. Several themes weave their way through the study – the call to remember; the call to repentance; the need for renewed vision; and the place of community. The prophets and Paul are continually calling hearers and readers back to their God and to a sense of who they are as a people “set apart”. The course will last 32 weeks, meeting Sundays from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Class will begin on Sunday, September 5th. Yes there is homework, approximately one hour a day for five days a week. Cost is $25, although scholarships are available. Please register as soon as possible by contacting Rev. Boone so books can be ordered for everyone. If you have questions, please contact Rev. Taylor Boone at Tboone@travispark.org or call and leave a message at 226-8341.
Join Rev. Dan Adams this fall for seven Sunday evenings for a free discussion of seven topics. The class will center on the participants’ own personal understandings of: God, the Bible, us, Jesus, the way of salvation, faith, and the afterlife. There will be no book to read, though Dan will suggest readings for those who wish to prepare for the discussion sessions. Material for these sessions will come from participants own lives and thoughts. The sessions will begin Sept. 12, 6:30-7:45 pm. “It is my hope as facilitator that no one will be deterred in the least by where you see yourself on the theological spectrum from conservative to liberal. My goal will be to make the class challenging, but respectful of all points of view.” -Dan Adams Please let Dan know if you are considering joining the class: kasongodan@gmail.com.

One Dollar...is all it costs to provide underwear, socks and a razor to each guest who showers at Travis Park Church. Each Sunday morning, 60-80 people use our shower facilities. The cost for supplies for each person is about $1.00. We welcome your financial gifts to help provide these much-needed items. Contributions should be made to Travis Park Church, and noted “one dollar campaign”.
Clothes Closet and Shower facts at a glance:
· We hand out 500 - 600 hygiene kits a month.
· We see over 250 men and 90 women per month for showers. When they shower, guests receive a clean pair of underwear, socks and a razor.
· Currently, we have a source that supplies razors at no charge.
· To receive clean clothes from the clothes closet, guests are required to take a shower.
· Each month, 350 guests go through the clothes closet.
· Generally, we have no pants for men or women except what comes in as a donation from individuals cleaning out their closets each week.
· Much of the clothing donated is unusable in that it is too dressy, dry clean only or seasonally inappropriate.
· What comes in as usable is generally gone within the week.
![]() Coming in October: A Joyful Gathering: Jubilee!

Sanctuary Light Panel
The Board of Trustees is moving forward to replace the outdated light panel in the sanctuary. It has not been functioning well for some time, causing the Sanctuary to be darker than it should be. This is a $27,000 improvement which is not included in the church budget. Would you like to make a special gift to help cover this cost? Please designate your gift as “light panel.”
Office Lights Improvement
The overhead lights in the office area have been upgraded this week with the goal of saving a significant amount of energy. It has been calculated that the savings will essentially pay for this project in three years. This is part of TPUMC’s efforts to be a green church.
Parolee Ministry News
God is good, all the time.
We have been praying for God to guide us through the organization of this ministry. Last Sunday, Carol Lockett, Executive Director of Bexar County Detention Ministries, Inc. attended worship and read about our efforts to organize a mentoring and assistance program for those coming out of prison on parole. Her organization provides services to former inmates very similar to what we have envisioned. She wants to collaborate with us in constructing the mentoring program using BCDM’s existing comprehensive one-stop services model and the volunteer mentors we develop. Seven churches have already expressed an interest in participating in this new ministry. We have been searching for a name and Ramona Paulus suggested Dreams Do Come True. Do you have a suggestion? If you want to know more, see or call Red Gilbert at 723-2906 or Phil Watkins at 279-4851. Please pray for this ministry. -Phil Watkins
![]() Do You Get Our Weekly Emails?
TPUMC keeps in touch with our church family each week by email. If you don’t receive these emails and would like to, please contact us at bcurry@travispark.org. To save funds and trees, we no longer send newsletters by snail mail, so stay informed by giving us your email address.
Parking FYI
On Sunday mornings, the parking lot adjacent to the church is reserved for families with young children, persons with mobility challenges and visitors. Free parking is available in the garage across the street. For more information about parking, click here.
